Attractions & Links

The village of Braithwaite is located just to the west of the very popular town of Keswick. Amenities within the village include tennis courts, bowls and two shops. There are two pubs and a hotel within 5 minutes walk of Thelmlea, all serving meals, and a bistro open to all, situated on the village camp site. There are a whole range of facilities in Keswick with its variety of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, museums, public parks etc.

Thelmlea, being set in the heart of the mountains and lakes, is well situated for all outdoor pursuits, including walking, cycling, rock climbing, paragliding, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, tennis, golf, fishing, bowling and swimming. There is a good choice of walking routes from the village.

For mountain bike enthusiasts there are many good routes of varying degrees of difficulty. The Whinlatter Forest with its many different cycle and walking routes is just on our doorstep! We are beside the C2C cycle route.

This is an ideal centre from which to tour the Solway coast, the Border City of Carlisle, and South Lakes - Windermere is a pleasant 30-40 minutes drive away. You could visit Wordsworth House at Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth, just 10 miles away, or Whitehaven on the Cumbria coast, a town with a long maritime and industrial history.
