Lake District Accommodation in the UK - Situated in the delightful Lake District village of Braithwaite just outside Keswick, at the foot of Whinlatter Pass. Thelmlea Guest House, is a charming Victorian family home offering traditional bed and breakfast accommodation.

The accommodation is set in 1.5 acre grounds in a central elevated position and commands superb panoramic Lake District views towards the Skiddaw mountains; Latrigg and on to the Helvellyn range in the distance. Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake are approximately 1 mile away and the Lake District town of Keswick just 2 miles away.

With 5 eating places, including 2 pubs, all within a short stroll and numerous walks from the doorstep, Braithwaite is an ideal and convenient place to stay, just away from the noise and bustle of Keswick town.

Touring the area

Thelmlea is an ideal centre from which to tour the area, the Solway Coast, the border city of Carlisle, the South Lakes – Windermere and Kendal are all within 30 miles of Braithwaite village.

Our aim is to provide a friendly, relaxed and homely atmosphere, good food and comfortable surroundings in which you can relax and enjoy your stay in the Lake District.

Thelmea is double glazed and has full central heating. In the comfortable guests lounge overlooking the garden there is a selection of books and games including walking and guide books of the area. Being Cumbrian, Marion and her husband Ian have a wide local knowledge and are happy to help with advice on local walks, attractions and places to visit. In the garden there are lots of different areas, so you can find a sunny patch, or sit in the shade under a tree to read a book and relax or even try your hand at sketching one of the magnificent panoramic mountain views. There is a patio and open porch at the front of the house were guests often relax with a complimenary pot of tea or coffee to unwind after there exertions of the day and chat with other guests.

Thelmlea is well situated for all outdoor pursuits including walking, rock climbing, cycling, paragliding, sailing, canoeing, wind surfing, fishing, swimming, tennis, golf and bowling. There is a good range of walking routes from the village including the “Coledale Horseshoe” which takes in Grisedale Pike one of the higher fells in the Lake District.

Cycling and Walking
For mountain bike enthusiasts, there are many good routes of varying degrees of difficulty. The Whinlatter Forest with its many different cycle and walking routes is right on our doorstep and the C2C route runs along our back boundary fence.

We have a large private car park with more than enough space of all our guest's cars and safe cycle storage.

We are members of:- Cumbria Tourism; Keswick Tourism Association and The Lakes Hospitality Association from which we receive an Annual Inspection by the Association’s accredited inspector.
